Garden of the People: Fostering Healthy Living Through a Community Garden
Executed by Northside Chase Elementary Green Corps, an affiliation of students, teachers, and community professionals devoted to tackling green initiatives. Garden of the People’s objective is to create an abundant market garden behind Chase Elementary that produces foods to be sold to community members and families of Chase elementary staff and students. The garden follows the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model.
The project is a symbol of modern urban farming done collaboratively with young adults and young children. One of the most important issues to young people is healthy, locally grown food being available in our communities. The Garden of the People will be a well-advertised agricultural monument and educational platform that brings attention to the opportunities available with urban farming and youth collaboration. The farmers involved in this project are young people that will act as leaders and role models to other aspiring urban farmers.
