A Word From the Chair – Javi Cuadrado

Javi CuadradoWith April already underway, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on where Fuel Cincinnati®  has been, where we are today, and where we’re headed.

A Look Back

It’s amazing to me that in just 5 years, Fuel Cincinnati® has already awarded over $35,000 to 30 different ideas, many of which have grown into non-profits that continue to improve Cincinnati every day.  This is thanks to (1) an amazing group of volunteers who have made it their mission to empower young professionals to make a positive impact in Cincinnati, (2) our sponsors, who have graciously supported us over the past 5 years, and (3) our applicants and grantees, whose passion for improving Cincinnati inspires us all.  Therefore, I wanted to take some time to say thanks to each of you:

To all our previous committee members: thanks so much for all the work you’ve done to bring Fuel Cincinnati® to where it is today.  You have left us a great legacy from which we will humbly contribute the next chapter.

To our sponsors: thanks for supporting us and believing in what we do.  Without your support and resources, we would just be an idea on a piece of paper.

To all our previous applicants and grantees: Thank you for believing that you can make a difference in Cincinnati. This city is a better place because of your passion, drive, and hard work, and we are very fortunate that we could help support your efforts.  We’d love to continue to hear stories about how your projects are going and what you’re up to!  You can send us an e-mail at [email protected]

Where We Are / Where We’re Headed

As I look to where we currently are and where we’re headed, the first word that comes to mind is excitement!  We’ve been hard at work over the past couple of months, and we’re starting to see that work starting to pay off. (like our new website, for example).

This year, we have four main focus areas:

  1. Attract more applicants
  2. Build sustainable revenue
  3. Build and maintain relationships with past and present grantees
  4. Build a working operational structure

To ensure that our goals and objectives for the year are met, we have a new operating structure, with newly created sub-committees focused exclusively on communications, development/fundraising, and operations. We’ve also reorganized the entire committee into an executive board and an advisory board, which will help us streamline our operations much more effectively.  We’re also ramping up for this year’s Fuel the Fire event on Thursday May 29, which you’re all more than welcome to attend!

We’ve come a long way already this year, and we have robust action plans in place to take Fuel Cincinnati® to the next level and leave a bigger mark on this beautiful city we all have come to call home.

Stay tuned for more updates and event news, and hope to see you at Fuel the Fire!
